The Joys of Metal Compatible Spray Paint

I took a worn out pair of bookends (Treble clefs!) and spray painted them with black spray paint. Whataya know... it works!

Pretty Paris Dress

This remake was a result of wishful thinking for warm weather while I was in college. The print is an awesome Paris inspired print, and the side of the skirt has some seriously amazing buttons up the side. Did I mention the dress was free...?
I took off the straps, and shortened it to a more practical length. I also took it in a significant amount, and rolled the top down to clean up the lines of the dress.

A Green Dress w/ a scary slit...

            Before                                                                    After

Stitched up the epic slit, shortened the sleeves, and let it sit in some navy blue dye for a couple hours to make it seem less washed out.

Halloween 2011: The Snow Queen!

They let us dress up at work :) I left glitter everywhere, but it was completely worth it. In creating this costume, I was strangely grateful for large shopping center's habit of putting out Christmas stuff by the end of October...

The bodice and such: A former nightie. I hand sewed a bunch of short scraps of lace on the bodice, and sprayed the whole thing with silver glitter shirt paint.

The skirt: 2 petticoats, with an old pair of white curtains sprayed with glitter over them. The lace overskirt is a giant tube with elastic at the top.

The Crown: a cheap tiara with Christmas ornaments glued on. The wand is a floral arrangement accent (Also found in the Christmas decorating section...)

Stay tuned for this years costume!

Easter Egg Bunnies

Pipe-cleaners, pom-poms, googly eyes, and plastic Easter eggs.
Glue the nose pieces together before you put them on the face.

Dreaming in Black and White

A spot of style for the couch. A very good way
to use up the remnant scraps that I have a tendency
to pick up at fabric stores. It's double
sided, and the edges are folded over on this side
to hide the raw edges.

Wire Details

Pretty wire flowers!

They're made of jewelry wire. The centers are the same wire coiled
up to hide the ugly overlaps. The one on the far left is a broken earring in
the center for a touch of blue. I used E-6000 to hold everything together,
and put them on headbands, pins, and hats.

His Name is Fernando!

This funny little face was made while I was in middle school. The art class
went down to the river and dug up clay. We then had to make a face.
I just found him, and his expression makes me laugh.

I needed something useful...

Before: Empty frame that occupied my wall for no reason.

After: Necklace Rack.
The backing is made of poster-board, cork-board, and a
fabric remnant from my Renaissance dress. The necklaces are hanging
on thumbtacks because they are movable.

Hairclips

I think I need to make some pins like this.
I took fake flowers apart, and re-layered them
together. The centers of the small ones are rhinestones I took
off a worn out formal, and the orange flower's center is
a spare button from a jacket the got ruined.

Temporary Wall Decorations

Scrapbook paper to brighten up an ugly wall. Use scotch tape to
catch the corners that come off the wall. Be careful of things rubbing
against the walls as that can tear/ bend the paper.

Embroidery

Pillowcase- Fall 2008. Unfortunately, I only know one stitch.
I love the colors though. I gave it as a wedding present to a friend.

Bouquet

Wedding rehearsal bouquet. June 2011.
It has all of the bows from the
presents from the showers,
plus some happy flowers that I decided
needed to be added in
to give it a little more ooomph.

Pretty

 Black and Ivory lace flower.
This was originally on a bobby pin with a wooden
disk for a base. It fell out somewhere outside on a trip.
Next time: Use an actual hair-clip.
